Monaco may yet still sell Thomas Lemar in the last few days of the summer transfer window, according to latest reports in France.

Arsenal have reportedly been chasing the 21-year-old all summer without any success, but now French outlet Le 10 Sport via Daily Star report that Monaco may be willing to sanction his departure in the final days of the transfer window.

Arsène Wenger has publicly confirmed in the past that Arsenal have looked at the player, with the higher ups at Monaco previously insisting that no deal would be done for Thomas. Monaco Vice-President Vadim Vasilyev told the media: “I will address speculation relating to Lemar – he is staying with us. He is an immense talent and is essential for the team.”

Like recent signing Alexandre Lacazette, Thomas Lemar is a French international with a Guadeloupean background. Whilst Lacazette’s family are Guadeloupean, Lemar was born in the region. The two are good friends according to reports, so Lacazette being at Arsenal could be another draw for the Monaco star.

Another factor in Lemar’s decision whether to stay at Monaco or not will surely be what happens with Paris Saint-Germain-linked Kylian Mbappé. Much as Monaco would be very reluctant to lose both players, Lemar may find it hard to justify staying without the teenage striker at the Stade Louis II.

The two are close, but more importantly have a good connection on the pitch. Lemar managed 14 goals and 17 assists in 55 games last season, but a lot of those goal contributions came courtesy of link-ups with the other French youngster.

His future at Monaco remains in the air, but Arsenal may not look to capitalise until they trim their squad down in the coming days.
