Breaking + Photo: Philippe Senderos in Arsenal training ground ahead of move

Former Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos is currently training with the club to build-up his fitness ahead of a summer move to the MLS.

The Swiss international, who has also played for AC Milan, Everton and Valencia among others, will be joining Houston Dynamo after improving his fitness, reports the Metro. Arsenal supporters need not panic, he’s not being drafted in as emergency cover at centre back.

The Gunners have a long history of welcoming back former players and allowing them to use the training facilities – Jens Lehmann, Sol Campbell, Mathieu Flamini, Robert Pires and Thierry Henry have all returned at various points. Even non-Arsenal players like David Beckham have trained at Arsenal.

Senderos was a promising talent with the Londoners, breaking through in the 2004/05 season and earning a starting spot in the 2005 FA Cup final against Manchester United. He was a regular in the defence that helped Arsenal reach the Champions League final in 2006.

Unfortunately, his confidence was destroyed by former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and he never quite recovered. Loan spells at Milan and Everton followed before he was sold to Fulham in 2010.

Since then, he’s played for Valencia, Aston Villa, Grasshopper Zurich, and Rangers. Now 32, he will be joining the Houston Dynamo.
