Last summer, Arsenal were constantly linked with the signing of Karim Benzema. Many reports even went as far as claiming the player has agreed personal terms with Arsenal and was only waiting for both Arsenal and Real Madrid to agree a transfer fee. Unfortunately for reasons we probably won’t ever get to know, the deal did not happen. But it appears Wenger has not given up on signing the former Lyon striker.
Reports from Spain suggest Benzema will become a Gunner this summer and in his stead, Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund of German. Only two days ago Aubameyang’s national team manager Jorge Costa confirmed the player has asked him not call him up for national team duties as he is changing club. It was initially thought the club in question is Arsenal but reports now claim it is Real Madrid is realistic as Wenger is unlikely to pay the £65 million that would have been needed to sign Aubameyang.
According to reports in the Spanish press, Real Madrid will let Arsenal sign Karim Benzema as soon as they have finalised the deal to sign Aubameyang which is quite at an advanced stage. Although Benzema had a turbulent season with various off field issues, he still managed to score 29 goals in 36 games in all competition for Real Madrid.
This is despite playing in a team where Cristiano Ronaldo dominates everything.
