Arsenal fans who have been waiting and hoping their club will this summer sign Ricardo Rodriguez from Wolfsburg now have course to be happy as the player’s club has officially confirmed the player is set to leave them this summer.
“Rici has stated that his future is not with us,” sporting director Klaus Allofs told Wolfsburger Nachrichten. “But we can live with this decision.”
Ricardo Rodriguez has been touted as a likely replacement for Kieran Gibbs who is said to be on his way to either Liverpool, Southampton or Leicester City. Arsenal according to the reports linking us to the signing of the Switzerland star, will activate the release clause of the player.
Kicker had before the commencement of the European Championship claimed Arsenal were in talks with the player, although with the Euros now underway, nothing has been hard of Arsenal’s interest in the player. But with the statement from Wolfsburg’s director, one is safe to assume the deal has been agreed in advance and could be announced after the European Championship.
Should Arsenal sign the very versatile defender, he will be a massive upgrade on Kieran Gibbs and should be able to give Nacho Monreal the much needed competition on the left side of our defense. He is said to have a release clause worth £19 million which is considerably cheap when you consider the ongoing prices in the current transfer market.
