According to Caughtoffside, Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy after the North London club opened negotiations with the Serie A side. The Gunners have been involved ‘secret’ talks with AC Milan over their interest in the 20 year old Italian international, who has become a fringe player at the San Siro club this season.
El Shaarawy has started just one domestic fixture this term. It seems AC Milan Boss Alegri prefers Robinho, Mario Balotelli and summer signing Alessandro Matri as his front men. El Shaarawy’s reversal of fortune this season is rather a surprise because he finished as the club’s top scorer last term, netting 19 goals in all competitions.
Their loss might be Arsenal’s gain as reports have it that the Gunners are weighing up a 25 million Pounds for the Italian. If you ask me, I will tell you he is a good fit for the Gunners. He is the type of striker that we need; young, quick, skillful, versatile and a good finisher. His versatility means he won’t be a direct threat to Giroud, hence, the Frenchman can continue his good form.
At 25 million Pounds, he might look a bit expensive but considering the fact that he has massive experience for a 20 year old and still has plenty of room for improvement which he would explore fully under Wenger’s tutelage, the fee might just end up been a bargain.
Moving to Arsenal will be a plus for him as it would avail him the opportunity of having regular football which will inadvertently brighten his chances of making the Azurris World Cup squad.
