Judging by a statement credited to Dortmund’s director Hans-Joachim Watzke, Arsenal target Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be sold this summer. This is despite the fact that the Armenian international has so far refused Dortmund’s offer of a new contract. The German club prefers to see him leave on a free transfer in 2017 and according to the player’s agent, the player will fancy a move to Manchester United which means Arsenal have been knocked out of the race for his signature.
However, SportBild, a very reliable media outlet, have confirmed Arsenal have open talks to sign Mario Gotze and there is a real chance a deal could be done immediately after the European Championship. According to BILD, Arsenal have been watching the situation of Gotze and have now decided to move for the world cup winner after it emerged the Gunners won’t be able to sign Mkhitaryan.
Gotze who has been linked with a move to Liverpool has according to SportBild confirmed he does not want to go to Liverpool or make a return to Dortmund saying he fancies a move to either Barca, Real Madrid or Arsenal. Arsenal are said to be aware of his situation at Bayern Munich and will hope they can convince him to move to England this summer. The Club is said to have received encouragement from the player’s agent. Gotze’s agent has reportedly been told Arsenal will be willing to offer him £140,000 a week which is a significant increase on his current wages at Bayern Munich.
