Arsenal are looking at the possibilities of signing Eric Bailly and Gary Cahill in January as replacement for injured Rob Holding, according to ESPN FC.
Rob Holding is out for the rest of the season after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament during the 2-2 draw against United at Old Trafford earlier this month.
The injury has now prompted the need for a replacement, and it was earlier reported that the club cannot recall Callum Chambers from his loan spell at Fulham, so they are looking to get an experienced center back to add depth to the defence.
They have been linked to Eric Bailly in recent times, with the 24-year-old facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford this season after falling out of favour.
He was initially Jose Mourinho’s favorite when he arrived from Villareal in 2016, but a series of injuries and loss of form has seen him relegated, with Chris Smalling, Vincent Lindelof and Phil Jones all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Manager Unai Emery is said to be an admirer of the Ivory Coast international having watched him at Espanyol and Villareal during his time as manager at Sevilla. However, it is believed that United will not be open to selling him in January.
Cahill on his part is seen as a possible short-term option with the veteran set to leave Chelsea on loan next month after being told he can leave by the club.
However, Chelsea could also decide against strengthening a direct Champions league qualification rival.
