ARSENAL transfer target Lucas Torreira is heading to the Emirates this summer, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims.
Unai Emery has already completed the signing of Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus, with the right-back joining on a free transfer.
And according to Romano, Arsenal have completed a deal to sign Sampdoria defensive midfielder Torreira.
When asked by a fan on Twitter about the Gunners’ pursuit of Torreira, Romano replied: “[Torreira] is done mate! But I don’t know when [it] will be announced.”
Torreira has a £22m (€25m) release clause in his current Sampdoria contract.
However, Arsenal could end up paying around £26m (€30m) for the 22-year-old.
The Gunners are willing to pay a higher fee and spread out the payments in instalments.
New Gunners boss Emery, who was named as Arsene Wenger’s successor last month, has been vocal on Arsenal’s transfer plans, with the 47-year-old revealing he plans to develop the current squad.
“I believe we can grow with the players we have,” he said.
“The objective is to work hard together and with these talented players.
“It’s very important for the club, after two years outside the Champions League, to work to be the best team in the Premier League and also in the world.”
