Granit Xhaka will be suspended for an additional game following his red card during Arsenal’s dramatic 2-1 draw with Burnley.
Under FA rules the Arsenal man will miss four matches, rather than the standard three, because it’s his second sending off of the season. The Swiss international was sent off against Swansea back in October.
The midfielder was shown red after having been deemed to have recklessly jump into a tackle by referee Jonathan Moss.
It means Xhaka will miss the FA Cup tie away at Southampton next weekend, then the Premier League games with Watford, Chelsea and Hull City. It is that middle game with Chelsea that Xhaka’s absence could be most keenly felt.
The Swiss midfielder adds to an already depleted central midfield that is missing Santi Cazorla through injury and Mohamed Elneny to the African Cup of Nations.
