ARSENAL boss Unai Emery wants to sign Freiburg ace Caglar Soyuncu, according to the player himself.
Arsenal boss Emery is primed to overhaul the Gunners’ squad after succeeding Arsene Wenger last week.
Top of his list is a new centre-back with Shkodran Mustafi, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny all toiling last season.
Arsenal have emerged as suitors for Soyuncu, who helped Freiburg stay in the Bundesliga last term.
And the Turkey international has now admitted that Emery wants him to move to north London this summer.
“Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England,” he said.
“I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalised yet about my transfer.
“After the national team camp we’ll have talks.”
Arsenal target Soyuncu is currently on international duty with Turkey.
The defender could feature in friendlies against Iran, Tunisia and Russia.
Transfer talks are then set to continue upon his return with Emery eager to sign him early.
Meanwhile, Arsenal legend David Seaman has admitted Emery must target top defenders this summer.
“There’s going to be a few changes, hopefully,” Seaman told Sky Sports News.
The defence needs to be a lot strong, attacking-wise and midfield-wise we’re okay on that front.
“But I think the defensive side needs a good look at. So I would imagine that’s his first concern.
“But the fans just want success and he’s got to start winning quickly.
“We have dropped behind a lot of the bigger clubs, we’re losing out financially as well.
“They’re attracting a lot of the bigger players b because they’re winning trophies and paying the money. So we’ve got to address that situation.
“But it’s all on success and if the team starts playing well early, then the fans will get behind them.”
