Arsenal’s move for Bernd Leno edges closer towards completion, with the Germany international keeper now on the verge of sealing a switch to the Emirates.
Sven Mislintat, Arsenal’s head of recruitment, has wanted to 26-year-old all summer, but it looked for a time like he would miss out on the stopper to Napoli.
But talks have progressed well this week between the Gunners and Bayer Leverkusen and a deal – thought to be in the region of around £22 million – is said to be imminent.
One completed, the German international will join fellow new arrivals Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis at the Emirates, although the latter’s deal has yet to be officially announced due to Borussia Dortmund wanting to wait until July before confirming the switch.
And ahead of his move to Arsenal, Leno has given a clear indication that the transfer is imminent with his latest activity on social media.
The keeper, who missed out on a spot in the German squad for the World Cup, liked a post on Instagram linking him with the Gunners.
And, as is always the way, Arsenal fans immediately spotted what Leno had done – adding to the excitement over his seemingly imminent arrival.
Should the deal be finalised for Leno, the keeper is expected to join Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira at the Emirates next season, with the 22-year-old on the verge of a £26m switch.
If both deals go through, that will make it four new additions this summer for Arsenal following the signings of Lichtsteiner and Sokratis – and there could be more new additions to follow as the summer rebuild continues.
