The club have been working hard trying to find a replacement for Arsene Wenger ever since he announced three weeks ago that he would be stepped down as manager.

Ivan Gazidis has been conducting a thorough process to find the right man to take us forward with the board mulling over whether to bring in an experience manager like Ancelotti/Allegri or a young gun such as Arteta/Vieira.

Arteta has emerged as the clear favourite in recent days with some bookmakers suspending betting on the 36-year-old being named as the new Arsenal manager.

The Independent claim Arteta ticks all the boxes and he’s set to be announced as the new boss following productive talks that included the former midfielder outlining his plans for his backroom staff.

Arsenal sacked a number of coaches earlier this week so there is plenty of room for Arteta to bring in his own team and the newspaper says he plans to bring at least three coaches with him.

One name in particular will be of interest to Arsenal fans as the Independent suggest that Santi Cazorla is set to be offered a player-coaching role once Arteta is confirmed as manager.

Cazorla’s contract expires next month and there are doubts over whether he’ll ever be able to play top flight football again after missing 20 months with a career-threatening Achilles injury.

It looks like Arteta is ready to offer him a duel role as player/coach for next season – which would allow Cazorla to have an influence on the squad even if he’s not able to play as regularly as he would have liked due to his ankle.

Arteta and Cazorla are close friends so it should come as no surprise that Mikel wants him to be part of his coaching staff, and it looks like we could have a new-look coaching team in place very soon.

I still have my reservations over whether Arteta is the right appointment at this particular time but it’s certainly an exciting move by the club and he’ll have my full support next season.
