ARSENAL are close to signing Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer, it has sensationally been claimed.
Arsenal already have £19m new boy Bernd Leno, Petr Cech and David Ospina on their books but reports in Spain suggest they want another option between the sticks.
According to Spanish publication MARCA, the Gunners are ‘in advanced talks’ to sign Sommer but face competition from Barcelona.
Nou Camp bosses fancy Switzerland international Sommer as a potential replacement from No.2 Jasper Cillessen.
The Dutch stopper fancies a move away from Barcelona after two seasons spent warming the bench.
MARCA, however, report Arsenal could seal a move for Sommer before Cillessen’s future is resolved.
It would be a major surprise if Arsenal were to sign another goalkeeper in this transfer window.
Leno and Cech will battle it out for a place in Unai Emery’s first-choice team.
Cech, 36, plans to stay put even if he is dumped to the bench.
His agent Viktor Kolar told ESPN: “It is always busy during every transfer window around Petr Cech, as a great Premier League person.
“However, he maximally focuses on the new season at Arsenal, no specific offer is available.”
