Spanish newspaper Marca is not happy with Premier League clubs’ ability to spend big and pay better wages to sign a player.

They suggest the English clubs are ‘destroying the market’. Coaches and the director of football of clubs outside the Premier League are unhappy because of the current situation.

When clubs outside the Premier League try to sign a player and if a club from England’s top flight competition is interested in the player, the latter have the advantage of beating the competition by paying a better package.

Marca highlight a current situation surrounding the future of Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira. He has been a transfer target for Arsenal and Napoli in the summer transfer window.

It’s claimed Carlo Ancelotti’s side wanted to secure the services of the Uruguayan international, who was the part of the national team that lost to France in the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup. Unai Emery is also an admirer of the player and is set to secure the South American’s signature.

The report doesn’t mention the wages Napoli were ready to offer to Torreira. However, Marca claim the Gunners have offered €2m more per season than the Serie A outfit in order to convince the 22-year-old to join them this summer.

David Ornstein yesterday reported Torreira was having a medical at Arsenal.

This may all be unfair on Premier League clubs, especially Arsenal. It’s not clubs from England inflating the market with Neymar, Mbappe and Coutinho type fees, and whilst Real Madrid have been quiet on that front in recent summers, it was they who mainly sent everything into the stratosphere in the first place.
