REAL MADRID could reportedly see their hopes of re-signing Espanyol defender Mario Hermoso derailed by Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
Hermoso is in Real Madrid’s cross hairs as they look to bolster their squad during the upcoming January transfer window.
Marca indicate the La Liga giants can snap the centre-back up for a bargain £6.5m (€7.5m) due to a buy-back clause in his contract.
Espanyol could welcome the deal with owner Chen Yansheng needing cash to balance the books, which has already prompted the sale of Aaron Martin to Mainz.
However, it is reported Arsenal might muscle in and push Real Madrid out of the equation for Hermoso because of new manager Emery.
Marca claim Arsenal have scouted Hermoso several times as he has impressed for Espanyol this season.
And the Gunners’ interest is apparently being driven by Emery, who is said to be a fan of the 23-year-old.
Emery currently has senior centre-backs Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Rob Holding and Konstantinos Mavropanos at his disposal.
But it seems he is looking to potentially strengthen Arsenal‘s defensive ranks having got to grips with life in England.
