Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat sees Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira as an ‘ideal addition’ to the squad in January.
The Mirror write that Manchester United are open to selling the midfielder in January, as he approaches the end of his contract. Pereira’s deal lasts until summer 2019, although United do have the option to extend for a further year.
Rather than letting him leave for free in a year or two though, Jose Mourinho would prefer to cash in while he has the chance. Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly keen, with an initial fee set at around £10m, which could rise to double that with add-ons.
There is interest from abroad as well, with Monaco, Inter Milan and Valencia following the 22-year-old, but the player himself would prefer to stay in England. That desire to remain in the Premier League is probably what is helping to keep the price down. Otherwise, the usual premium on selling to a rival would apply.
Pereira impressed United fans in pre-season, but he only lasted 135 minutes in the Premier League before Mourinho gave up on him completely. Since his substitution at half-time against Brighton in mid-August, the midfielder has played 35 minutes of club football in three months.
The Belgium-born Brazilian had a couple of good loan spells in La Liga before this season, but we’ll see if he gets a chance to replicate that with a new club in England.
