Alexis Sanchez says he has told Arsenal he wants to leave this summer to pursue his ‘dream’ of winning the Champions League…
Sanchez, who has just a year left on his contract, claims he is waiting for a response from his club after informing them of his desire to get back into Europe’s elite competition.
Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in over 20 years last season – but manager Arsene Wenger had been keen to keep hold of Sanchez.
Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have all shown interest.
Talking to Radio Sport in his native Chile, Sanchez said: ‘I want to play in the Champions League. The decision isn’t down to me, I need to wait for Arsenal.
‘I’ve made my decision, now I wait for Arsenal’s reply. The idea is to play and win the Champions League. I’ve dreamt about it since I was a kid.’
Sanchez has one year remaining on his £140,000-a-week Gunners contract, but the Chilean is said to have wanted around £300,000 per week in order to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
But the 28-year-old may now look to force through a move with the prospect of Europa League football and a fight to return to England’s top four clubs in store over the coming season.
