Arsenal are reportedly set to complete and announce the signing of Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos by Sunday, according to talkSport.
The Gunners transfer department have been after the signature of the Borussia Dortmund defender since the end of the season back in May regardless of the absence of a manager at the club.
The 29-year-old defender refused to sign a new contract at Dortmund after expressing the need to join a different club.
However, according to Kicker, the Gunners have concluded a £15million fee and the Greece International Sokratis should be a part of The Gunners squad by Sunday.
The 29-year-old defender will be Unai Emery’s third signing since taking charge as Arsenal manager with Sokratis signing a three-year contract with the Gunners pending a successful medicals at the Gunners training base.
Sokratis is an experienced defender and his presence in the club will help the team’s defence thrive, with club star defender Laurent Koscielny presently injured and news of Per Mertesacker retiring, Papastathopoulos will be an important addition to the team.
The Gunners defense was highly criticized last season for its underperformance which contributed to the club’s inability to secure a trophy or a spot in the European Champions League.
