Nicklas Bendtner’s agent has insisted the striker is focused on his Arsenal career and is not thinking about his future despite entering the final six months of his contract. The 26-year-old has scored twice in 12 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions so far this season, but the Danish striker has been linked with a move away from Arsenal, among the favourites for the title with Unibet, during the current transfer window.
Bendtner spent last season on loan at Juventus and a number of Serie A teams have reportedly been reported to be preparing a bid for the Denmark international – although interestingly enough not Juve, themselves. With his contract at the Emirates coming to an end, a number of European clubs are rumoured to be interested in signing the forward in the summer.
However, the Dane is currently recovering from an ankle injury and agent Tom Brooks says that he is unaware of any interest.
“We have not been in touch with Arsenal about it. We might discuss it with Arsenal later in case it is necessary. Nicklas is focused on Arsenal and regaining his fitness.”
While Wenger may have been tempted to let Bendtner leave the club during January before Theo Walcott’s season-ending injury, the Frenchman will be feeling differently about things now. For all Bendtner’s faults, the striker could have an important role to play in the rest of the Gunners season. With Olivier Giroud showing the effects of a season spent playing up front on his own, a fully fit Bendtner could offer Wenger something different during a crucial end of season run.
Whether Bendtner can do enough between now and the end of the season to earn a new deal at Arsenal remains to be seen, but the Danish forward could find himself in-demand this summer if he can return from injury and end this season in impressive fashion.
