Lucas Torreira looks set to become Unai Emery’s fourth signing since taking over from Arsene Wenger this season, according to BBC.
The Gunners are expected to unveil the Uruguay international next week after Fridays defeat to France at World Cup.
Torreira is a defensive midfielder for Serie A side Sampdoria and an international star for Uruguay.
The 22-year-old began his career with Montevideo Wanderers before he joined Pescara’s youth team.
After an impressive run of form, he completed a switch to Sampdoria for a reported fee of £1.32m at the start of the 2016-17 season.
Torreira is expected to undergo medicals at North London Colony His arrival will finish off Arsenal’s major recruitment this summer, although they are expected to bring in another younger player before the transfer window closes on 9 August.
The Gunners have already secured the services of defender Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Bayern Munich while Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno has agreed to join from Bayer Leverkusen.
