Montoya got linked to Arsenal and Liverpool shortly after the transfer window got closed, unfortunately the player came out to dismiss the rumours of him leaving Barcelona by saying he is likely to sign a new contract and stay on the long term at Nou camp.

According to reports in Italy, France and Spain, there is a possibility that he could get a free transfer to Arsenal or Liverpool at the end of the season.

Montoya’s agent Jose Maria Orobitg, has revealed that the 22 year old defender is bordered about Daniel Alves who is obstructing his chances to the first team at Barcelona and he could possibly seek a transfer to Arsenal or Liverpool.

Speaking to sky Italian, Jose Maria Orobitg said : “For the moment he is under contract with FC Barcelona until the end of the season.

“However, the contract extension has still not arrived.

“We have talked but there is no certainty that Martin Montoya would hold down a first-team spot, because right now Daniel Alves closes the door.

“The transfer window is closed, but I can tell you that the contract extension may not be successful.

“In the past, Inter Milan, Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal, Dortmund and Liverpool were interested.

“Anything could happen between now and June.”

Montoya is a versatile player who plays primarily as a right back but can also play as a centre back. With Sagna ageing and not signing a new Arsenal contract, there is a good chance of Wenger making a move for him especially if he is available on a free transfer.
