Arsenal’s search for a new striker continues. The Gunners have been linked with plethora of strikers from across Europe: Rooney, Jovetic, Higuain and Villa but it seems one has already ruled himself out of the running to be Arsenal’s leading marksman next season and he is none other than Fiorentina striker Stefan Jovetic. The Montenegro striker expressed his preference for Serie A champions Juventus. ‘I gave my all to Fiorentina, but [coach] Antonio Conte could help me grow at Juventus. I have been at Fiorentina since 2008 for five very intense seasons. I feel I have given my all and I have nothing left to give here. Juve have been after me for a year, and they say they want me and that I’m a top target. Who wouldn’t be flattered by that? I want to move there so I can grow.’
From the statements above, it is crystal clear than the Montenegro forward believes he will thrive under Conte rather than Wenger (Antonio Conte could help me grow at Juventus). Why does he prefer Conte? I doubt if it’s his ability to handle young players, it must be his achievements in terms of silverwares at Juventus. Conte has led the Turin giants to back to back Serie A titles, with them winning one unbeaten unlike Wenger that has endured trophyless 8 years.
He also rates Juventus higher than Arsenal, (Juve have been after me for a year, and they say they want me and that I’m a top target. Who wouldn’t be flattered by that? I want to move there so I can grow.’). His choice of Juventus isn’t far-fetched. They have been more successful in terms of silverware in recent seasons unlike Arsenal while they are undisputedly the best team in Italy unlike Arsenal that are struggling to hold on to their top 4 status in the Premier League. The fear of the unknown could also be a reason why he wants to stay back in the Serie A. He is more at home where he has spent 5 seasons than a league he is just coming to.
Fiorentina have no preference. They are ready to sell their Prized asset to a fierce domestic rival if they offer the highest. With Jovetic off Arsenal’s radar, the battle seems a straight one between Rooney and Higuain.
