Deportivo La Coruna president Tino Fernández has reportedly flown into London to try and conclude a deal for Arsenal striker Lucas Perez.
In recent weeks, the links between Deportivo and Lucas have grown stronger, with the Spanish club seemingly the favourites to add him to their line up. Now, La Voz de Galicia via talkSPORT are reporting that the Deportivo president has flown in to try and complete the deal.
There have been rumours of a variety of clubs interested in Lucas, but most of the stories have slowly died down, only leaving Deportivo and Newcastle as the two remaining interested parties.
Arsenal signed Lucas only a year ago on a long-term contract, so there is no pressure on the Gunners to sell in that sense. However, after taking Lucas’ number nine squad number to give to new signing Alexandre Lacazette, it doesn’t seem like the player is near the top of the pecking order.
Although Lucas performed solidly in the cup competitions and in his limited Champions League appearances for the Gunners, he couldn’t get any more minutes from Arsene Wenger. It was a surprise to see so little of him given he scored 17 goals the previous campaign.
His form before leaving is why the Spanish club are so keen to have him back, I believe.
