Arsenal’s Plan B Set To Fail As Striker’s Club Refuse To Sell

Arsenal have been told by Swansea’s Michael Laudrup to look elsewhere if they must sign a new striker as their striker Michu won’t be sold. Two days ago, the news broke that Arsenal are considering bidding for the prolific Spanish but if Michael Laudrup’s words are to be believed, the gunners have no chance as the midfielder cum striker is not available for sale even if Arsenal or any other club makes an incredible offer.

“I think economically the club is very good,” said Laudrup. “I know if they (Arsenal) came in with a very late bid, I know that the reaction from the board and chairman will be ‘No’, even if the money is ridiculous, as we will not have time enough to find a replacement who is near enough to the same standard.

“You can say we would get a lot of money but why be the richest club in the championship? What is that worth?

“I spoke to Michu last year and he extended his contract and asked me about mine and I said ‘I am going to stay here’, and he said, ‘So am I’.”

It was thought that Swansea’s signing of Bony from Vitesse Arnhem for a fee of 12 million pounds will make it easier for any club to sign Michu but instead, Laudrup has said the player is not a striker but instead a midfielder and therefore they will be needing him in the midfield department of the team in the new season.

He said: “Michu is an offensive midfielder who can play centre forward but he will be a goalscorer wherever he plays.

“He is not only a goalscorer who is up there, waiting. When he plays in midfield he is working very hard and physically he has a presence and fills a lot of space as well.

“I see him more as an offensive midfielder. He can come in from that second line where he is so gifted.

“Of his 22 goals last season, I think 20 of his goals were first touch which shows how effective he is.”

This will surely be another sad news for Arsenal and their fans who have been so far frustrated in the transfer window with no real quality addition made to the team that obviously need 2-3 high quality players so far this window.

Arsenal’s sole signing so far is French Under 20 striker, Yaya Sanogo who was signed for a nominal fee from French second division club Auxerre.
