Arséne Wenger has said that he is still looking for additions to his squad and that “Arsenal will continue to be active in the transfer market, until the end of the deadline day.”
On being quizzed about his huge role at Arsenal, in terms of fee to be paid, and which players he wanted, he said, “I naturally have a big say in it. But we have a team that works on that and if they are not ready then that is good enough for us.”
Pressed on why he has failed to spend during the current window, despite money having been made available, Wenger said, “Why isn’t it being spent. I can return your question. Why isn’t it being won by the players on the pitch?”
“We do not spend the money because we do not find the players. I am not the only one for that.”
“I am disappointed when our fans are not happy, but we haven’t lost a game because of our performance.”
“We are in the market to buy players. Everybody knows, but until we do we have to win games.”
Arsenal lost their first match of the season, to Aston Villa, and Wenger was the target of the fans frustration, with chants of ‘Spend some f*****g money’ ringing all over the ground. The Frenchman has come into criticism for his lack of spending in a transfer market, which was labeled a very important one and Arsenal could have stolen a march on their rivals with a couple of early signings.
