Arsenal vice-captain, Mikel Arteta believes their 2-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday has alerted the football world to start considering the Gunners as title favourites. Arsène Wenger’s side have been top of the league for over a month now but have been tasked to win the big games before they can be taken seriously.
That challenge now seems to have been taken care of with yesterday’s impressive victory and Arteta, who produced a highly impressive performance against the Reds now believe the Gunners are beginning to show how strong they’re as a team.
“For us today was a great day,” he said. “We want to stay where we are and we will make it difficult for the rest.
“We played a really good team. They have been on fire in the past couple of weeks. It was a great test to see where we are and we showed that we are at least as good as them.
“We are tested every week. People have been waiting for us to lose. But we showed today the desire that we have to stay we are. I feel this is a very good message. We wanted to get the points at home. But we know there is still a long way to go.”
Arsenal have opened a five point gap in the league and face another “test” of character when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford in their next Premier League game a week from now.
