The summer window has been a quiet from Arsenal’s perspective even though the club were expected to make statement signings that would put them in good stead to compete for major honours, hopefully win some and stem the protracted drought come next season. Wenger expressed the desire to make early signings and that was backed by Gazidis’ declaration that we have money to spend on quality signings.
According to the South African born CEO, Wenger has 70 million Pounds warchest but with the summer clear out that has already taken place, the kitty has increased further to 100 million pounds according to many who are in the know. Why then hasn’t Wenger signed anyone?
With that unprecedented transfer warchest, Wenger can afford to buy three world class players. Stars that have been proven, tested and trusted quality players. In the course of this summer window, we have been linked with plethora of top notch stars; Jovetic, Rooney, Fabregas, Felliani, Suarez, Williams, Cesar to mention just
a few. Of all those arrayed stars, I would pick just 3; Suarez, Fabregas and Felliani. Should Wenger sign those 3, I believe we would be good to go for the season. Call it fantasy but it’s plausible.
Contrary to generally held opinion that we need center back, goalkeeper, striker and winger to be ready for the season, I believe our paramount needs are in the areas those 3 will fill. Suarez is a versatile attacker and striker. Owing to his versatility, he can play as a loan striker or on the wings. Despite Liverpool holding out for 50 million Pounds, I believe a bid of 45 million and Champions League football will see the Uruguayan biting his way out of Anfield.
Suarez will add new dimension to our attack and help rekindle the Henry era with sublime strikes and sumptuous finish.
Fabregas who won’t cost us more than 25 million Pounds should we succeed in convincing him to cut short his miserable Nou Camp stay. He will add vision and unrivaled creativity to the midfield. His presence in central midfield will see Cazorla moving to the wings and that means more options for us on the bench. Both Cazorla and Podolski will have to battle for the left wing slot.
Felliani who has a buy-out clause of 24 million Pounds is the strong man the Gunners have been missing since Vieira left in 2005. He would seamlessly slot into the defensive midfield role and give proper protection to the back 4. His arrival would also give us more depth in that defensive midfield role with Arteta and Ramsey
making do with the bench. Besides, Diaby hasn’t been factored into the equation.
This might sound like mere fantasy but could become reality because we have the money and their total cost is well within Wenger’s summer financial purview. The only stumbling block could be Wenger’s unwillingness to spend his entire warchest which means these 3 marquee arrivals are just mere fantasies and might remain just that.
