Arsene Wenger is still monitoring Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender. The Frenchman saw an offer rejected for the German in the summer but is believed to be considering a second bid.
It’s unsure whether Wenger will make his next month in January or next summer but Bender is top of his list of signings. The club were in the market for a striker and holding midfielder all summer but failed to bring any in. They did manage to secure the free transfer of Mathieu Flamini, who can play as a midfield anchor but it’s unsure whether he still has the talent to be the club’s main defensive shield.
The club did manage to sign Germany star Mesut Ozil and Wenger is believed to be happy with his squad but will keep tabs on Bender as well as Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez with views with moves for the trio possible after Christmas.
The signing of Ozil is expected to make Arsenal a more attractive destination and the club could benefit with more high profile players willing to join the North London club. Bender could also be persuaded to move with the growing contingent of Germans as the club with Ozil’s arrival following those of Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski.
Should Arsenal stay ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United in all competitions by January, they may be able to secure the signings of Suarez or Rooney before the summer.
