ARSENAL stars were left shocked by Unai Emery’s decision to drop Aaron Ramsey for the defeat to Chelsea.
The Wales international was named among the substitutes for Saturday’s 3-2 loss at Stamford Bridge and had to wait until the 68th minute to get on the pitch.
Emery opted to leave Ramsey out of his starting XI after being less than impressed with his performance in the opening-day defeat to Manchester City, according to the Daily Mirror.
It is claimed Ramsey, who is stalling on a contract extension, was stunned by the decision.
He reportedly held talks with Emery after the City defeat, and Arsene Wenger’s successor justified his decision by seeking more balance in the engine room.
Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi lined up in midfield against Chelsea with Mesut Ozil in an advanced role.
But Emery was forced to change his midfield tactics after an action-packed first half.
Arsenal made a nightmare start as Chelsea raced into a two-goal lead inside 20 minutes.
Pedro made the most of some shocking marking to open the scoring before Alvaro Morata shrugged off Shkodran Mustafi to fire past Petr Cech.
Arsenal rallied and went into break with the scores level thanks to goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi.
Ramsey came on for Ozil midway through the second half but Chelsea nicked all three points thanks to Marcos Alonso’s late winner.
According to the Daily Mirror, Ramsey looked annoyed and refused to talk to the media after the final whistle.
The drama comes amid Arsenal’s attempts to tie him down to a new contract.
