Arsenal Set To Be Beaten Again As Rivals Set To Hijack Striker Move

Jose Mourinho seems to have taking his search for a striker to the Bundesliga as the Daily Mail reports that he has made moved ahead of Arsenal in his attempt to sign Mario Mandzukic of FC Bayern Munich.

Reports have emerged that the player, who is said to be on the wanted lists of Arsenal, could sign for the London club after his representatives held a meeting with the Blues recently.

27 years old Mandzukic is one of the most explosive strikers in the Bundesliga, and could be a subject of a bidding war between both clubs should Wenger’s interest be real as reported. The player, who was said to have expressed his desire to ply his trade in the EPL, is expected to command a transfer fee in the region of £30 Million.

Bayern on the other hand are not too keen on allowing the player easy exit out of the club as they plan to keep him in spite of the imminent arrival of Robert Lewandowski in the summer. Bayern chief and German legend, Karl Heinz Rummenigge had during a recent interview played down the rumour surrounding the departure of the Croatian from the club.

In the interview, the Bayern chief was quoted as saying:

“We want him to stay, and I remain fairly confident he will. But I know that many clubs throughout Europe want him, and that is not surprising. You only have to look at his scoring record to see his quality, so we will see what happens.”

It is not yet known how Chelsea plan to adhere to the FFP regulations since the player is likely to command a hefty price tag; but the fact that Mourinho had never hidden his intention to sign a striker this summer means this story could have some legs.

Arsenal on the other hand, do not have similar problem when it comes to FFP rules; but may not be able to match the kind of wages a club like Chelsea could offer. Mandzukic would signify a strong statement on the part of Arsenal, who are in desperate need of a world-class striker.
