As the Mesut Ozil (Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere) contract saga rumbles on, its looking more and more unlikely that the player will stay and The Daily Star claim that Arsenal are now willing to cash in on the player. This is in stark contrast from yesterday’s claims that the German is set to sign IF he can get his hands on the Arsenal number 10 shirt.

The paper also claims that we have now put a £30m price tag on the player and Manchester United are keen to take the player to Old Trafford where he will work with his old Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho should a deal be agreed.

Ozil will be out of contract at the end of the season and selling him in January looks like the only sensible decision by Arsenal if he is unwilling to sign a new contract. There have been no further contract talks since March and the Arsenal fans are increasingly frustrated with Ozil’s recent lackadaisical performances of late.

If Ozil decides to leave for free next summer, a lot of top European clubs will be willing to take him on and pay huge signing on fees and Jose Mourinho’s magic chequebook will be the first on the scene no doubt to try and tempt the 29-year-old playmaker. The only stumbling block could potentially be that Mourinho’s valuation of the German might be vastly shy of Arsenal’s £30m. Given their chequered history, the Portuguese manager is bound to want to play hardball with his Premier League nemesis Wenger and get the player on the cheap.

If United do get Ozil in January, he will be available for selection in the Champions League according to the paper, as he has only participated in the Europa League for Arsenal. This alone would make him worth every penny of the £30m if they can remain in the competition long enough to make use of Ozil.
