Arsenal are ready to make another move for Jonny Evans again this summer, following West Bromwich Albion’s relegation, but they face competition from Manchester City.
In certainly one of the more bizarre transfer sagas, Arsenal and City both look like going back for Evans for the third time. Wenger apparently made bids for the centre-back last summer, as well as in January, but never met West Brom’s high valuation.
Now, thanks to the Baggies’ relegation, Evans will be available for £3m, as he has a release clause for this scenario. The Guardian say Arsenal will take advantage of the opportunity to ‘revive the interest’ they previously showed in the player.
They won’t be the only ones though. As mentioned, Manchester City are also apparently interested. Also, earlier in the season there were reports suggesting West Ham would also come in for the player if West Brom went down.
This is far from the first we’ve hard about Arsenal going after Evans. The Daily Mail wrote last monththat the club planned to ‘cut their losses’ on Mustafi, selling him and bringing in the former Manchester United man to free up funds for other signings.
We’ll have to see if it really happens, now that Arsene Wenger is no longer managing the club.
