Arsenal Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta has declared that the rest of the Premier League were now in awe of the Gunners after they comprehensively beat Liverpool yesterday at the Emirates. November has been dubbed the period Arsenal’s title credentials will be put to test owing to the calibre of oppositions that would be confronting the Gunners a la Liverpool and Manchester United but with Arsenal’s victory over Liverpool, pundits would be having a re-think.
Arteta completed an astonishing 100 out of 106 passes in the win and told Arsenal.com after the match: “We are tested every week. People have been waiting for us to lose. But we showed today the desire that we have to stay we are. I feel this is a very good message. We wanted to get the points at home. But we know there is still a long way to go.
“We played a really good team. They have been on fire in the past couple of weeks. It was a great test to see where we are and we showed that we are at least as good as them.
“We want to stay where we are and we will make it difficult for the rest.”
Well said Arteta and I can’t but agree with you. Prior to the match against Liverpool, an alibi has been given for Arsenal’s good run and the explanation was that the Gunners were yet to play tough teams in the mould of fellow title contenders but the manner with which Arsenal made a mince meat of Liverpool’s threat especially the ones posed by Suarez and Sturridge will strike fear into the hearts of upcoming opponents.
Up next is a clash against Manchester United at Old Traffird. It stands to be seen how Arsenal will fare against a team they have not beaten in a while. Arsenal’s title credentials will be further underlined if they leave Old Trafford with maximum points next weekend. For now, let us savour the 5 points cushion we have over the rest of the chasing pack.
