Luiz Gustavo is a wanted man and is available for as little as £15 million. Arsenal are looking at a possible purchase but Wolfsburg are current front runners for his signature.
Despite stellar performances for Bayern Munich and Brazil over the past two seasons, Pep Guardiola’s arrival at the Allianz Arena could mean the end for Gustavo’s future with the Bavarians after his midfield purchases of Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara.
Competition was already strife in that position with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Javi Martinez, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Toni Kroos, Xherdan Shaqiri and Thomas Muller all vying for a place in a congested midfield but the two new purchases have made competition even harder with departures expected.
Anatoliy Tymoschuk left for Zenit at the start of the transfer window while Emre Can completed a move to Bayer Leverkusen a few days ago giving a little space in the squad but further departures are expected as Guardiola puts his stamp on the treble winners and Gustavo is a likely contender for the chop.
His performances haven’t got unnoticed with Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all keeping tabs on the midfielder, but it’s Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga who lead the race as they made their interest concrete with a £15 million offer.
The other clubs are yet to respond with a bid of their own and Munich are likely to accept Wolfsburg’s offer with the bid meeting their asking price of £15 million.
Arsene Wenger has been reluctant to act quick this summer, losing Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli, with a move for Luis Suarez looking less likely to happen every day. Marouane Fellaini’s release clause of £23 million expires in two weeks yet Wenger is still to make a impact in the transfer market and Gustavo could be yet another player to slip under the radar of ‘Le Prof’.
