It seems Arsenal are finally getting the respect of the pundits. Former Arsenal star and Wenger’s number one critic ( or should I say hater? ) Stewart Robson has told Talk sports that he feels Arsenal are just a striker away from mounting a serious challenge on the title this season. Arsenal are currently top of the EPL log with 25 points, 5 points more than their closest rivals Chelsea.
Although started the season with a low start after losing at home to Aston Villa in a 3-1 one defeat at the Emirates, the gunners have gone on to win 8 premier league matches and drew just one ever since the open day defeat. However, Arsenal only have one senior striker in Olivier Giroud to depend on. The French man has scored 8 times so far but many fears for when he gets injured.
Arsenal’s only other striker Yaya Sanogo who was signed in the summer is regarded as a rookie and may not be able to cope with the demands of the premier league just now and the other players who could play as strikers Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski have so far been struggling with injuries. This has made Stewart Robson opine that if Arsenal and Wenger want to have a chance of winning the title this season, they have to go all out for another striker in January.
Talking to talksport, Robson said :
“I’ve always felt the group have been good enough, my criticism has been of the manager, I don’t think he’s got the best out of the players he’s had,” Robson told the Press Pass.
“Arsenal have great creative players, but I don’t think they’ve been well organised enough defensively.
“So I don’t think they need that many new players in January, though they probably need a second centre-forward just in case Giroud picks up an injury.
“Bendtner has not been good enough, we know that, so we probably need another main striker. We can’t get more creative midfield players, we’re inundated with them.
