Chelsea and Arsenal appear to have been thrown a life line after their attacking summer target Henrikh Markintaryan refused to sign a contract extension in Borussia Dortmund. The Armeanian international has one year to run on his contract and appears to be ready to force a move abroad as he has hesitated to sign a contract extension.
This season the midfielder scored 18 goals and provided 20 assists to record his most prolific season in his career. This propelled the club to runners-up in the Bundesliga and also quarter-final as Thomas Tuchel proved a success in the team.
BVD might be forced to cash in on the midfielder in order not to lose him for free next session which is the same thing that happened at the club in 2014 with Robert Lewandowski when he left for Bayern Munich for free.
Arsenal have not hidden their interest for the Armenian after signing Granit Xhaka from Borussia Mochengladbach some weeks ago. Arsenal will need to cough out in excess of £20 million in order to sign the midfielder if their bid is to be taken seriously for the players services.
