Scottish striker, Garry O’Connor, says he could have joined Arsenal back in 2007.

O’Connor was on the verge of leaving Lokomotiv Moscow at the time and was apparently considering an offer from Arsenal.

That’s the claim of the man himself, who told Record (via The Scotsman)“Of course there was, there was an offer from West Brom, from Fulham, I think there was an offer on the table from Arsenal , from Arsene Wenger.”

If you’re wondering who Garry O’Connor is, he was a decent enough Scottish striker playing for Hibernian in the mid-2000s. After 34 goals in two seasons, he earned a move to Lokomotiv Moscow in 2006.

He scored 11 goals in 49 appearances in Russia, which is hardly form that would grab the attention of Arsenal.

Arsenal did, in fact, sign a striker that summer: a certain Eduardo da Silva from Dinamo Zagreb.

O’Connor went on to join Birmingham City and scored four goals all season. Eduardo, meanwhile, was an excellent piece of business right until his leg was broken against Birmingham.

A look at O’Connor’s career suggests Arsenal didn’t miss out of anything by not signing him.
