Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski feels his side did not deserve to lose to Arsenal in their Champions League group stage clash.
The Polish striker struck a late winner a fortnight ago to condemn Arsenal to their first European defeat of the season but was this time on the losing side as Aaron Ramsey headed in a winner after the hosts spurned plenty of opportunities to score.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan hit wide at the end of the first half when he was played through on goal by Jakub Blaszczykowski in the best chance of the game. Marco Reus & Lewandowski also had great chances before a break saw Ramsey head in Olivier Giroud’s nod down.
Dortmund cleared off their line moments later as Arsenal went for a second before regaining their composure and laying siege on to the Arsenal goal for the final 25 minutes however they could not break through a stubborn defence. Wojciech Szczesny was on hand for when they managed to squeeze through.
“We should never have lost this game but it’s too late for that now.”
“We had plenty of time to put it right but now we’re left with two games and six points needed to win.”
“Sometimes football is like that. We had three of four good chances but didn’t score. They had just the one and scored.”
“In the end, all that counts is the result. We have to beat Napoli now.”
Ramsey’s goal was his 11th of the season and secured a historic victory making Arsenal the first English club to claim a victory at the Signal Iduna Park. The result keeps Arsenal on top of Group F while Napoli’s 3-2 victory over Marseille moves them second with both on nine points. Dortmund sit third with six.
If Dortmund fail to beat Napoli & Arsenal beat Napoli then Dortmund would be knocked out of the Champions League and so victory for them is vital.
