Arsenal are set to complete their first of the summer this month, according to reports, but the various reports are conflicting over who the player is.
Some quarters believe the new signing will be Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos while some others believe it will be Freiburg’s Caglar Soyuncu.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio the Gunners are close to reaching a deal for Sokratis which would be around £17 million after he rejected Dortmund’s offer of an extension on his current deal which runs out next summer.
They face competition for him though with a number of English and Italian clubs also after the experienced center back according to reports in Germany, but the Gunners are favorites due to his relationship with Sven Mislintat who is pushing for the deal.
However, the The Metro claims Caglar Soyuncu is the man who has been identified by the Gunners head of recruitment Sven Mislintat and they are ready to pay up to £35 million to secure his services.
Other sources believe Soyuncu is interested in the move and has even agreed a move to England and the deal could be completed within 14 days.
The only constants in the reports are the facts that Arsenal are prioritizing a center back and Sven Mislintat’s influence at the club is growing by the day.
But the next few weeks will make the picture clearer, with the identity of the first signing along with the level of influence the new manager will have on transfers all currently subjects of speculations.
