Barcelona youngster Joel Lopez has confirmed that he is leaving the Spanish giants amid talk of a move to Arsenal.
The left-back, who plays for Barca’s U16s, is believed to have rejected a new contract to remain with the club to pursue a move elsewhere.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with the player and reports from Spain have claimed that Raul Sanllehi, the club’s head of football relations, has used his Barcelona contacts to persuade the youngster to make a move to the capital.
Given there will be more opportunities to progress into the first team at Arsenal, Lopez has decided to end his stay at Barcelona and now looks set to join Arsenal’s academy.
Cesc Fabregas and Hector Bellerin have both made the same move in the past and Lopez will be hoping to follow in their footsteps in the not too distant future.
“The day has come to say goodbye to what has been my home these last 7 years,’ Lopez wrote on his Instagram account.
“Thanks to Barcelona, it will be the club that I always carry in my heart for wonderful moments that I have lived with my friends, coaches, delegates, executives.
“Magnificent people who have made me feel welcome from the first day.
