While Arsenal are reportedly working behind the scene not to only ensure the trio of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil put pen to paper on new contract deals, Barca are said to also be working behind the scene to put a spanner in Arsenal’s works. This is as reports in the last one week continue to claim Barca are interested in signing Hector Bellerin from Arsenal this summer.
Only yesterday the news broke that the former Barca youngster has agreed personal terms with Barca and have been told by the Catalans to go and have words with Arsene Wenger in a bid to convince the Frenchman to sell him to the Spaniards this summer. The reports claim Barca are confident they can get a deal done for between £45m to £50m. Many are already taking advantage of ladbrokes £50 free bet to bet on the likelihood of this deal happening which is quite telling.
The betting odds of Bellerin leaving Arsenal this summer are constantly reducing which is an indication that the bookies believe the deal could be done. And it could be that the betting companies are merely speculating which is not out of place once it is summer time. And it could well be that the bookies have been privy to classified information as was the case last summer when some bookmakers suspended bets on Vardy leaving Arsenal only for the news to break that Arsenal had activated his release clause.
However, newer reports claim Arsenal are also confident that the £100,000 a week ( figure by telegraph ) right back will remain with Arsenal at the end of the summer transfer window. Arsenal are said to have made it clear that Bellerin will not under any circumstance be sold this summer and that the 22-year-old is happy at the Emirates stadium. This should ordinarily be good news to the ears of all Arsenal fans but many ar paranoid and rightly so.
Arsenal fans are yet to forget how Wenger said Fabregas and Nasri will not be sold few years ago but both of them ended up getting sold the same summer. Although it can be argued that the financial situation of the club back then and now can’t be compared but I personally will be surprised if Bellerin is not sold if an offer of upward of £55m is made for him.
Arsenal is a business, the earlier the fans accept that fact the better. And to be honest, I would not want Arsenal to keep him if truly he is unhappy and has been talking to Barca. If he wants to go, let him go, just make sure Barca is milked dry while at it. Bellerin is a young player who has potentials but let’s face it, he can easily be replaced. His and Mustafi’s form last season greatly affected Arsenal and if he can be so ungrateful to be talking to Barca behind Arsenal’s back then let him go.
One thing I would not want is for it to drag too long. If he wants to go, tell Barca your asking price, they are ready to pay it, take it and let it all be done with. But we should never fall for their dirty antics. Bellerin in the current market is worth at least £50 million, Arsenal should not settle for less no matter what.
