Sven Mislintat came close to convincing Yacine Adli to sign for Arsenal from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, despite ultimately proving unsuccessful in his pursuit.

That’s according to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), who write that Mislintat ‘courted’ the 18-year-old, who was close to signing, before changing his mind and signing a first professional contract with PSG.

The report claims Adli will now earn €60,000 a month, as well as receiving a €1m signing-on bonus, which isn’t bad for someone who has just reached adulthood.

Clearly Arsenal’s interest worked out well for the player himself, earning him a bit of extra cash and allowing him to choose between two big clubs, maybe even procuring promises over game time in the coming seasons.

Unfortunately for the Gunners, the result was that they didn’t land their man. On the other hand, Adli’s eventual refusal is probably part of what drove Arsenal to get the deal for Matteo Guendouzi over the line.

It was just a week after Adli signed an extension with PSG that Arsenal finalised Guendouzi’s transfer. It’s definitely possible one depended on the success or failure of the other.

A former PSG youth star himself, Guendouzi has already won himself an Arsenal Player of the Month award. Hopefully it’s the first of many.
