As the contract dispute between Armenian Henrik Mkhitaryan (27) and Borussia Dortmund continues, Arsenal seems to be favourites to snap up the former Sharkar Donetsk Player this summer.
Mkhitaryan has been in explosive form and is one of the best players in the world in his position which is slightly behind the main striker or out wide on the right hand side of the forward position. The player who was signed by Jurgen Klopp in 2013 scored 23 goals and provided a perfect 33 assists last season as BVD chased Bayern
Munich until the final days of the season.
Mkhitaryan did not enjoy the best of relationships with Jurgen Klopp before the exit of the ex-Mainz manager but that wasn’t the case with Thomas Tuchel who incidentally is also an ex-Mainz manager. Mkhitaryan’s agent last week made it public that the Armenian was accessing the options he had at present after BVD refused to bulge to his demands of inserting a release clause that would be triggered if Tuchel eventually leaves the club.
This has made it easier for the likes of Arsenal to target the player with rumours persisting that he could join the club for as little as £20 million this summer considering that he only has 12 months to run on his current contract which might force BVD to sell him instead of losing him on a free as was the case with Polish captain Robert Lewandowski in 2014.
Though wanted by both Chelsea and Tottenham who have the funds to sign him, Mkhitaryan is believed to favour a move to Arsenal considering his style of play which seems likely to suit Arsenal the most. While nothing has been concluded yet, it is a known secret that the on-going dispute and silence of both BVD and the player is slightly tilting the balance in Arsenal’s favour considering his summer signing.
