Arsenal were reportedly prepared to offer Jack Wilshere to Trabzonspor in exchange for Yusuf Yazici over the summer.

The Gunners were willing to pay £14.4m for Yazici over the summer but Wilshere, who Arsenal allegedly value as £9m, would be part of the deal, claim Haberturk.

Trabzonspor were said to be very interested in the 25-year-old but they apparently believe Yazici is worth closer to £18m. They therefore rejected the Gunners’ reported offer.

According to the Turkish club’s president, Muharrem Usta, Trabzonspor were close to signing the midfielder on loan after holding ‘direct talks’ but Wilshere decided to stay in London instead.

Wilshere has under a year left on his current deal at Arsenal, which explains why the Gunners might have tried to offload him over the summer. However, Usta claims this was a loan deal and doesn’t mention anything about a permanent move.

As it stands, it looks as if Arsenal are willing to offer the Englishman a new deal if he can stay fit. During the international break, Arsene Wenger spoke about how much is at stake for the injury-prone ace.

“Wilshere struggled historically with repeated injuries,” Wenger told beIN Sports. “Nobody would question his talent. Nobody would question his exceptional ability to beat people with the ball. But in this job you need first health.

“Today the requests and demands in the competitions are so high physically that you can only be your best physically if you can play at least 10 games on the trot.

“That is what’s at stake for Jack Wilshere. Keep health and compete and be capable to compete.

“If he can play from now until December at the top level he will be back. If there are other setbacks then it will be difficult for him.

“It’s a vital season, it’s the end of his contract, a World Cup year. He’s an Arsenal player since he’s a kid so all that is at stake for him.
