Reports have claimed Real Madrid’s Spanish stopper Iker Casillas could be set to leave Real Madrid in the January window in a bid to salvage his world cup dreams. According As, the Spanish goalkeeper is liked by Arsene Wenger, who would be ready to make an offer to the club to take the star to the Emirates for the second half of the season. (Tuttomercatoweb)
As interesting as the story sounds, I doubt the plausibility. Casillas is undoubtedly a talented goalkeeper and massively experienced but bringing him in would be tantamount to halting Szczesny’s run in the side. Should Casillas leave Real, he would be doing so because of reduced first team role and any club he moves to, he would expect to walk straight into the line-up.
So far this season, Arsenal’s Polish stopper has been brilliant and had been duly rewarded with a new contract that came with increased wages. Will Arsenal be paying him so much to sit on the bench? I doubt it.
It is a dream to have Casillas at Arsenal but his availability is at the wrong time. How I wished he was available when Almunia was messing up, he would have been a perfect replacement for his misfiring compatriot but now, he is a luxury that Arsenal cannot just afford.
