According to a report by the Express, Arsenal are preparing a cut-price deal to bring Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez to the Emirates Stadium after his the Swiss £21m buyout clause have expired. With some reports from the German press claiming Arsenal are confident of getting the deal done and in fact officials from the Emirates believe a medical will take place by Friday.
The Swiss has been strongly linked with a move with Arsenal in recent months as Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking for a possible replacement for Kieran Gibbs who wants to leave the Emirates this summer as a result of he losing his first team place to Nacho Monreal.
Reports suggests that the buyout clause on the Swiss expired at the end of June so the Bundesliga outfits are now expected to sell him for significantly less than £21m fee they’ve been pointing potential buying clubs towards.
The club’s sporting director Klaus Allofs admitted last month that he had (Rodriguez) made it clear he wants to leave the German club this summer. He said via the Express:
Rici has stated that his future is not with us,”
“But we can live with this decision.”
Although Barca are also said to be interested in signing the highly rate Switzerland international, it is believe Arsenal have won the race for the player and it is only a matter of time before the deal is made official.
