With Jamie Vardy rejecting the once in a life opportunity of playing for Arsenal and instead choosing to remain at Leicester City, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger knows there is just but little margin for errors. And according to various reports today, the Frenchman has entered the race to sign highly rated and very profilic Argentina and Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.
Icard, 23, was linked with a move to Arsenal last summer but chose to remain in Italy with Inter Milan but with Inter having a bad season and missing the chance to playing in the Champions League in the Champions league next season, Icardi has confirmed he will consider his options this summer. Aside Arsenal, West Ham and Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in him.
But with West Ham not playing in Europe next season, Atletico are Arsenal’s only real challenge for the Argentine. He is reportedly available for €40 million which is cheap considering the fact that players in his class, the likes of Lukaku and Morata, are going for in excess of £45 million.
He was once on the books of Barca which is another big plus in his interesting profile. Ever since joining Inter Milan from Sampdoria, he has scored 52 times in 105 games which is an impressive record for a player playing in the Serie A.
If he joins Arsenal, he will be expected to oust Giroud from the first team.
