Arsenal are reportedly lining up a £60m move for Lyon talisman Nabil Fekir as they continue to prepare for life without Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, with the duo look no closer to agreeing a contract extension with Arsenal.
The duo contracts expire next summer and the Gunners are reportedly considering letting the wantaway stars leave in January in order to get a head start on rebuilding their squad.
According to the Daily Star, it claimed that Arsenal are interested in the Lyon’s captain – Fekir -, which would be the second time in as many transfer windows that the Gunners have looked to the French club for potential additions to their team, after letting Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal in the summer.
Fekir’s signing would see Arsenal breaking their transfer record once again to sign Lacazette’s old teammate, and the report claims that a deal worth up to £60m is “almost done.”
While fans would not be happy about losing either Sanchez or Ozil, Fekir could be an exciting replacement.
The 24-year-old, standing at 5ft8″, has been likened to Lionel Messi for his ability to play as a striker or ‘in the box’, while Fekir’s boast an impressive 11 goals and four assists in 11 Ligue 1 games this season.
While other European clubs (including Barcelona) are reportedly monitoring Fekir, Arsenal’s desperation to find replacements for Ozil and Sanchez – who could both leave for as little £30m in January – may see them strike first to complete a deal for the Lyon star.
