Arsenal are still interested in Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, but a move looks very unlikely now, according to David Ornstein.

Arsenal’s transfer window appears to be grinding to a halt.

After a great start bringing in Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette, there’s been very little activity. Nobody is close to arriving and, most frustratingly, nobody seems close to leaving, either.

According to BBC journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal were still hoping to sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, but that hope is rapidly diminishing.

Speaking to BBC Readio 5 Live (via the Daily Star), Ornstein said: “It’s very unlikely Arsenal will sign him now.

“There is interest there but Monaco have made their stance pretty clear that he’s not for sale and it would take an incredible amount of money for Arsenal to prise him away.

“There may be one that Arsenal are possibly looking to bring in.

“I don’t think there is a specific name, but there is perhaps scope to bring in one more player.

“They’ve already spent quite heavily. Alexandre Lacazette – the record signing – and Sead Kolasinac was a free, but with their salaries that brings that spend up.

“They may look to bring a player in before the deadline but the priority is to shift a player out.”

It seems that Arsenal have put all their eggs in the Lemar basket and are now short of options during this late stage of the transfer window.

It’s possible that Arsenal will turn their attention to another position. Recent comments by Arsene Wenger about our attack suggests he thinks we might have enough there.

It’s also been reported that the club needs to sell some players before they can sign anyone else.

Arsenal have 33 players in their first team squad and are hoping to offload the likes of Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson and Lucas Perez. They’ve had little luck so far.
