Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will set clubs back around £20m this summer, according to latest reports.
The Metro believe the 25-year-old has an asking price more than three times greater than the £6m offer from Sampdoria this summer.
Wilshere has just one year left on his Arsenal deal, however, which makes negotiations a lot more difficult as clubs could just wait 12 months and sign the playmaker for free.
In addition to some interest from the Italian Serie A, West Ham United have been closely linked to Wilshere, who was a boyhood supporter. The Londoners may have to double Sampdoria’s bid to stand a chance of getting his signature.
Having spent last season on loan with Bournemouth in pursuit of more playing time in the Premier League, Wilshere’s likely departure from Arsenal isn’t a surprise but more upsetting.
His natural ability isn’t in question but his fitness levels are. The English international hasn’t been able to escape serious injuries in recent seasons but Arsenal still have a fondness for their academy graduate. It is believed they will insert a buy-back clause should he be sold.
